What's with MM gift display?

How many people have gone to see an MM and they have a table or bookshelf full of gifts? Is that weird? Turn on/off? It seems like they just collect them and never use anything (such as pricey creams/cosmetics/perfumes/etc). Are they admiring their conquests???
