Thanks to Dragondick dailo for this find. I think it deserves its own posting. Substitute Line with Wechat or 陌陌 in the story and you pretty much have the same thing happening here in Toronto. What's new here is that these scammers are now putting in much more effort in an attempt to hook bigger fish than before. In the past, most of the Wechat ripoffs just involve outcall C9 trying to pass themselves as young hot girls to lure customers. They don't typically have much time to spend on chit-chat with you so its really easy to identify those. Now, I've talked to a couple of "girls" on Wechat lately and they act much more natural. They put in much more time to take things slowly and chat with you, sometimes over a couple of days before casually mentioning that they do 兼職援交. They won't proactively tell you about it from the beginning and they won't ask you if you want to be their customer. They are really good at 放長線釣大魚, and let you 自己上釣. Another thing, their scams are getting more sophisticated too. The first time I met one of these, I asked "her" to send me a voice message to confirm she is really a girl. When she gave me a bullshit excuse not to talk, I knew right away its a scam. The recent ones though actually have a girl with a cute voice to hook you in. Another trick they use is posing with a 陌陌 account, but if you try talking to them, they will redirect you to add them on Wechat. http://news.singtao.ca/toronto/2015-06-04/taiwan1433399188d5612588.html 軍人中美人計 被騙逾12萬 詐騙集團花招不斷翻新，最近警方發現，詐騙集團在LINE上放置正妹照片，再約單身男要援交，方姓軍人日前放假，色慾攻心，中了綽號「欣欣」的女子的圈套，連人都沒看到，一天的假期，都忙著到5家超商買價值12萬餘元的遊戲點數當保證金，結果連對方的手也沒有摸到。 只有20歲的方姓軍人，因在軍中，無法交女友，今年3月間，他到網絡交友網站中，留下自己的LINE，說想與女性交往，過沒多久，就有自稱「欣欣」的女子加入他的好友，剛開始兩人很少聊天。 近日「欣欣」突然告訴方姓軍人，自己是名學生，有在兼職援交，正好假日休假的方某，一時色慾攻心，就透過LINE約對方在台南市中西區康樂街見面，方到現場等了半小時，女方均沒出現，後來「欣欣」再LINE給方，說要先到超商購買2萬元的遊戲點數當保證金，兩人才能見面。 方姓軍人，為了達陣，整個晚上都被「欣欣」當猴子耍，先後到5家超商，購買了價值12萬餘元的遊戲點數，當他把密碼告訴「欣欣」，一直等到半夜11時，她都未出現，才恍然大悟得知被騙，立刻向警方報案。
